Antelope Audio, maker of the impressive Zodiac Gold DAC has upped the ante with a higher specced version called Zodiac Platinum. It’s killer app is DSD upsampling, a feature that Antelope is claiming to be unique to this converter and which can push DSD64 to DSD256. It also has a custom USB input which can process PCM at up to 768kHz with quad DAC architecture, and, as is the company’s inclination, it has a very serious clock onboard. This is described as an “ultra-low jitter oven-controlled crystal oscillator” which is a 64-bit device, if you want even greater clocking precision there is a 10MHz input for Antelope’s 10M Rubidium atomic clock. As with the other Zodiac models it has a stepped relay volume control, six digital and two analogue inputs, XLR and SE outputs and dual headphone outputs. The Zodiac Platinum will cost $4,895 or $5,495 if bundled with a Voltikus outboard power supply and it’s due for release at the end of July.
