The much rumoured replacement for the Rega RP10 has finally arrived. The Planar 10 (£3,599) follows the approach found in the Planar 8 earlier in the year by taking its inspiration from Rega’s ultimate turntable the Naiad. It shares the foam cored skeletal plinth with the P8 alongside the double brace between tonearm base and bearing housing in order to maintain rigidity between these two critical points. For the first time on a Rega the top brace is made with a ceramic rather than phenolic material.
The elements of this new design include a low mass central bearing assembly with improved mechanical integrity, a ceramic platter with flywheel effect moulding on the underside that places the mass on the perimeter, a 24v low noise motor assembly with a new mounting technique taken directly from the Naiad. Specially cured drive belts for superior consistency and the same minimalist dust cover provided with the P8
The P10 PSU is a custom matched power supply with electronic speed change and anti-vibration control, it also offer fine speed adjustment for total accuracy. The Planar 10 features the new RB3000 tonearm fitted with an improved, low mass, precision bias housing. We have pioneered a completely new low mass, central hub bearing assembly with improved mechanical integrity.
Apheta 3
The Planar 10 will be made available with a brand new MC cartridge the Apheta 3 as a factory fitted option. This new cartridge was developed alongside the Planar 10 and has an advanced Fine Line diamond profile. As the recommended match for the Planar 10 turntable the Apheta 3 factory fitted package will be available at a discounted rate of £4,499. The Apheta 3 retails for £1,250 on its own.
