Most will need a whole new arsenal of definitions to pin down the style that best describes this musical gem. Few will have any difficulty describing enjoying the creativity of MYT.
MYT features soul music, it contains hip hop, it has Satriani like guitar licks and conversely tuneful guitar tunes that remind one of Khruangbin, it uses modern electronica merged with a pleasant whiff of prog as well as jazzy themes that are reminiscent of the Stanley Clark quartets of the late ‘70s.
Hailing from Berlin, this is Moses Yoofee trio’s debut album yet the group have been performing since 2020, gaining fame and fans as well as a prestigious German jazz prize for Live Act of The Year award in 2024. The trio consists of, Moses Yoofee piano and keyboards, Roman Klobe-Barangă electric bass and Noah Fürbringer on drums and percussion. MYT is a testament to their brilliance and talents.
The download is available in a 44.1/16 guise, the recording is somewhere between excellent and brilliant. It puts the listener in the studio metres away from the musicians. The sound is warm’ish and very accurate, the bass line delicious and the drums will have you believe a new set been installed with a drummer in front of your speakers. But the good news doesn’t stop there. Hi rez fashionistas and vinyl zealots rejoice! The album can be downloaded in a 24/96 guise and the LP could ordered via the Moses Yoofee’s Bandcamp portal at the time of writing. MYT is a short (33.5 minute) album that will guarantee cheerful moods on one’s commute or festive times at home. Profoundly and highly recommended.

I have to agree with Reuben on this one, MYT combines jazz sensibilities with prog elements in a highly engaging fashion that is driven in no small part by the drums of herr Fürbringer, yet avoids bombast. This is an exciting development in European jazz that sounds as if it comes from the other side of the Atlantic.
