Austrian Audio have announced the Hi- X65 headphones. Designed as professional monitoring headphones for mixing and mastering, the open over-ear design and the high excursion driver has a 44mm diaphragm and a ring magnet system. “This allows for improved airflow and includes the strongest magnetic field in its class”. The ring magnet, combined with a copper-clad aluminium voice coil, reduces the weight of the membrane and the voice coil connected to it, allowing the membrane to move or change direction faster, providing a more responsive impulse reaction.
The ear pads are made of soft memory foam and have been designed to provide space for the ears without increasing the external dimensions over the company’s Hi-X55 model. The breathable construction ensures excellent ventilation, while supporting the acoustic design. The soft memory foam padding of the headband has a clever recess for the head seam and thus significantly reduces the contact pressure.
All moving and load-bearing components are made of metal with a “very sturdy” folding construction and come with a carrying bag. Additionally, the headphones are designed to work with a large number of sources: the 25 Ohm impedance means “the greatest possible power and headroom are always available, no matter if the sound source originates from high-end headphone amplifiers, reference AD converters, analogue mixers, mobile players or notebooks”. The headband and ear pads, i.e., all hygienic components, can be easily exchanged and replaced, ensuring that precision, listening pleasure and comfort remain the same over time.
Supplied 1.2m and 3m cables (4 and 9 feet) connect with a locking mechanism. The standard 3.5 mm stereo jack plug ensures the highest possible consumer compatibility, and an adapter to a 1⁄4” stereo jack is included for professional connections.
The Austrian Audio Hi-X65 headphones are available now priced at £319 and distributed in the UK/ROI by Sound Technology Ltd.
