French loudspeaker manufacturer Cabasse is expanding its wireless music streaming range with the Stream 1 and Stream Source. These can stream from networks, tablets and phones and turn any USB drive into a DLNA server. Cabasse describes them as “a comprehensive, yet simple and elegant, streaming solution at a very affordable price”.
Stream 1 (above, £499) is a compact, streaming music system with built-in speakers. The pebble shaped glossy white or black Stream 1 features Cabasse coaxial drivers for a wide dispersion and contains the amplifiers and streaming electronics. It plays music stored on a network, tablet or smartphone via Wi-Fi, Ethernet or Bluetooth, and is controlled by the Cabasse app for iOS or Android. NFC technology allows instant ‘touch’ connection to any NFC equipped smartphone or tablet. Built-in automatic DLNA server software enables any directly connected USB stick or hard drive to be made available to the whole network, for playback on other Stream players, alleviating the necessity for a server equipped NAS drive.
The Stream Source (below, £299) is a diminutive stand-alone player that’s just 4cm high and brings the connectivity of the other Stream products to any hi-fi system. Onboard DACs take the digital signal from the network in file formats from MP3 to 96kHz FLAC and deliver an analogue output. As with the Stream 1, Bluetooth connectivity is possible with smartphones or tablets using the apt-X codec. Embedded DLNA software enables the music on any directly connected USB drive to be instantly made available across the network.
All Cabasse streaming products are compatible with MP3, WAV, WMA, AAC, AIFF, ALAC and FLAC file formats and contain both the vTuner module, for access to thousands of internet radio stations and the Deezer streaming module for instant access to over 25 million online songs.
