Dual CS 429 turntable in walnut finish for UK

Decent Audio, Dual’s UK distributor, is offering the CS 429 turntable in a walnut wood veneer finish through its UK dealer network. Sitting at the centre of Dual’s three-model fully automatic range – between the CS 329 and CS 529 – the CS 429 pairs classic one-touch vinyl convenience with the stability and precision expected of a modern hi-fi deck.

And while the CS 429 is very much a king of convenience, it also reinforces a long-standing Dual philosophy: convenience and hi-fi performance are not mutually exclusive. At the press of a button, the tonearm lifts from its rest, begins its gentle commute into position over the start of the record, and lowers itself with precision into playback. At the end of the final track, it lifts again and returns automatically. It’s designed to feel effortless in use, while also reducing the risk of accidental damage to records or stylus wear.

Once a standard feature of many hi-fi turntables, full automation has become increasingly rare. One reason fully automatic turntables – particularly those aimed at hi-fi users – are now relatively uncommon is that they are not easy to engineer well. Precision mechanics, timing, and long-term reliability all have to work together without compromise.

Dual’s experience in this area, however, spans decades. Its engineering roots stretch back to 1907, with turntables defining its work throughout the 20th century. That lineage includes the Dual 1009, introduced in 1964 as its first fully automatic turntable. The same approach carries through to the CS 429, with automation that’s smooth, reliable, and doesn’t interfere during playback.

Under the surface, the CS 429 uses a belt-drive system with precision optical speed control at the motor, engineered to maintain stable rotation and minimise speed variation. Rather than adopting a direct-drive architecture, Dual opts for a mechanically decoupled design, helping isolate the platter and tonearm assembly from motor vibration.

Vibration damping elements built into the plinth and feet further reduce external resonance, supporting consistent playback conditions. The platter is a die-cast aluminium design running on a hardened steel spindle with a brass bushing, paired with a heavy rubber mat for additional damping.

The tonearm is a straight, statically balanced aluminium design with ball bearings and spring-loaded anti-skating. It is supplied with a factory-fitted Ortofon 2M Red, making the CS 429 ready to use straight out of the box.

Dual’s approach throughout is focused on longevity and reliability, with a design that avoids unnecessary wear components and is backed by a five-year warranty.

Originally launched in black – or, more accurately, only black – the CS 429 is also available in a walnut veneer finish in response to customer demand. The additional finish adds a warm, furniture-like aesthetic without altering the core engineering beneath.

The walnut Dual CS 429 is available in the UK for £799, a £100 premium over the black version (£699).
