Russ Andrews is offering audiophiles the opportunity to purchase a special limited edition version of the Kimber Kable PBJ interconnect cable, for an enhanced audio experience that belies its price point.

Taking the existing cable and enhancing it with the WBT 0114 RCA connectors in place of the standard Kimber Ultraplate connectors, the limited edition PBJ LE is designed to provide an extremely secure connection with lowered resistance. It does this through the WBT clamping mechanism, which firmly clamps the outer contact of the plug against the RCA socket. In addition, the central pin is slotted to give a firm yet ‘elastic’ contact, ensuring a reliable electrical connection.

“PBJ has been a staple product of Kimber’s for many years, having been introduced as the company’s first audiophile interconnect. Its name is derived from the acronym PB&J – or peanut butter and jelly – a staple food in post-war USA that was named by the GIs who came up with the concept,” explains marketing strategist, Simon Dalton. He adds, “Ray Kimber isn’t one to change products if they don’t require it, instead producing high-quality cables that last the course, hence the 30 years plus life of PBJ.”

The PBJ LE features a distinct red/black/yellow colourway – woven especially for Russ Andrews. As with all Kimber products it features a braided construction, in this instance a tri-braid utilising three hyper-pure copper, Varistrand Kimber Kable conductors. Each is individually insulated with an extruded fluorocarbon dielectric and braided together. The famous Kimber weave acts as a filter, reducing both airborne Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) and RFI which can be carried along the cable, from one piece of equipment to the other, in order to provide a much cleaner audio presentation, free from unwanted noise.

The Varistrand concept uses seven individual strands of differing gauge cable for each conductor. Each gauge ‘favours’ a different frequency range, allowing the cable to represent the overall frequency of the music more accurately. Each conductor is surrounded by a no-expense-spared fluorocarbon (Teflon) insulator. Its application is expensive, but it can be applied at a higher pressure and therefore a lower temperature, minimising any heat damage to the copper and maintaining its purity.

Commenting on the performance of the PBJ LE, Russ Andrews, technical director and chairman, says, “PBJ is a cable that surprises with its ability to bring out the best in budget systems whilst not disgracing itself in the company of high-level kit. It is tonally balanced with clear, articulate highs, accurate midrange, tight extended bass, and three-dimensional sound-staging, satisfying the requirements of even the most discerning audiophiles.”

The PBJ LE is available from today – 18th March – for a strictly limited period until 28th April 2025. PBJ LE prices: 0.5m £159, 1m £187.
