Mutec MC1.2+ bi-directional digital to digital converter
This bi-directional DDC from Mutec combines comprehensive digital audio format conversion features with sound quality improving performance via USB. The MC1.2+ easily converts PCM audio streams through its USB, AES/EBU, AES3/EBUid and S/PDIF interface ports. This process can be performed simultaneously – also via USB – in both directions: in and out. Such an exceptional flexibility proves to be extremely useful in a professional recording studio. There, thanks to the MC1.2+, versatile and lossless signal transfers between audio interfaces, digital mixers and effects processors in real-time become possible.
This digital to digital format converter from Mutec, whose MC3+ USB reclocker impressed us so much recently, uses low-noise audio clock oscillators to improve the USB audio stream by regenerating the signal and isolating the USB voltage. As a result, interferences that are normally induced into the device circuitries via the USB interface voltage can no longer negatively influence the digital signal processing of the MC1.2+. This leads to a significant reduction in phase noise and clock jitter, respectively.
The MC1.2+ looks to be a variant on the MC3+ USB without the clocking interface at a more competitive price. While the two way operation is not necessary in audio systems the ability to isolate the DAC from noise on the USB input from a PC should could make it a serious upgrade for streaming enthusiasts.
