The much anticipated update of Rega’s RP6 will be in the shops in the coming weeks. The P6 is entirely new with the exception of the plastic hinges and comes in one colour, matte Polaris Grey. Its plinth is made of a super lightweight foam core with high rigidity skins that is not unlike the basis of the RP8/10. It sports a one piece aluminium subplatter, upgraded white belt and dual layer float glass platter in a smoked finish.
A big change is the Neo power supply which uses the RP10 DSP generator to create “a near perfect sinusoidal waveform to drive the motor. This, along with an efficient drive amplifier, generates a 24V AC balanced signal of less than 0.15% distortion, which is completely un-affected by any changes in the mains/line voltage and conditions. This then drives the turntables anti-vibration circuit, which is situated beneath the turntable.”
The arm is the RB330 as found on the P3 with a stainless steel counterweight, the P6 will be sold as a package with the new Ania moving coil giving a £100 discount on turntable and cartridge bought separately. The plinth retains the dual bracing that locks armbase to the brass housing of the main bearing for maximum signal retrieval. Unlike the RP6 the new model has a seventies style smoked dust cover. Priced at £998 or £1398 with Ania MC factory fitted the P6 is expected to be available in late July, early August.
