French loudspeaker specialist, Triangle has introduced Solstice, an all-new loudspeaker range that succeeds its long-running Esprit series. Developed and manufactured in Soissons, France, Solstice is built on an entirely new technical platform, featuring a redesigned horn tweeter, new driver architecture, revised cabinet construction and an original integrated base design.

For more than three decades, the Esprit range earned a reputation for high sensitivity, natural tonal balance and strong value. Solstice marks the next chapter, introducing new technologies throughout the loudspeaker while preserving the musical character that has defined Triangle designs.

Unlike the evolutionary development of previous Esprit generations, Solstice has been designed from the ground up. Every major component has been re-engineered, with particular attention paid to frequency coherence, cabinet rigidity and the reduction of unwanted coloration.

The Solstice range launches with three models designed to work together in stereo and home cinema systems, sharing common drivers, crossover principles and cabinet architecture. White, black, teak and birch finishes are available, along with matching stands.

Solstice 8: A three-way bass-reflex floorstander featuring a 25mm horn tweeter, 16cm cellulose midrange driver and twin 16cm concave-cone woofers. Bandwidth is 38Hz–22kHz with 130W RMS power handling. Dual terminals support bi-wiring or bi-amping. Recommended room size: 15–50m².

Solstice 3: A two-way bass-reflex bookshelf speaker using a 25mm horn tweeter and 16cm cellulose midrange driver. Bandwidth is 48Hz–22kHz with 90W RMS power handling. The cabinet base is designed to integrate directly with Triangle’s S05 stand. Recommended room size: 10–35m².

Solstice C3: A two-way sealed centre-channel speaker fitted with a 25mm horn tweeter and twin 16cm cellulose midrange drivers. Bandwidth is 50Hz–22kHz with 120W RMS power handling. At 92dB sensitivity, it is closely matched to the Solstice 8 and Solstice 3, ensuring consistent tonal balance across the front soundstage.

The Triangle Solstice range is available from this month through authorised Triangle retailers, with the following suggested retail pricing. Solstice 8 (floorstander) €1 999 / £1 999 / $2 799. Solstice 3 (bookshelf) €999 / £999 / $1 349. Solstice C3 (centre channel) €575 / £579 / $750 each. S05 speaker stand TBC.

Triangle Solstice innovations

TZ2540MG Horn Tweeter: Developed specifically for Solstice, the new TZ2540MG tweeter represents one of the range’s most significant advances, combining two acoustic concepts not previously used by Triangle.

OS-SEW Optimised Horn: The horn profile follows the OS-SEW (Oblate Spheroid Super Elliptical Waveguide) principle to promote more even high-frequency dispersion. This delivers a wider listening area, a more stable soundstage and more consistent tonal balance away from the central listening position.

Barrel Structure: A barrel-shaped cut-out at the base of the horn creates volumetric compression at the suspension point. This improves behaviour around the crossover region and enhances integration between the tweeter and midrange driver.

25mm Aluminium/Magnesium Dome: The dome uses the same aluminium/magnesium alloy employed in Triangle’s higher-end Esprit 40th and Magellan 40th models. Magnesium increases stiffness while reducing the breakup behaviour associated with pure aluminium. The tweeter also incorporates a neodymium ring motor with an open centre and a rear absorption chamber to minimise internal reflections and reduce distortion.

Single-Piece Phase Plug: The phase plug is injection-moulded as a single component and uses geometry derived from the barrel structure. The design promotes more even high-frequency distribution and helps maintain consistent off-axis performance.

New driver architecture

Every Solstice driver has been developed specifically for the range, with attention focused on basket design, cone materials and assembly methods.

Die-Cast Aluminium Basket: The 16cm drivers use a new arch-shaped die-cast aluminium basket designed to combine structural rigidity with improved airflow. The geometry helps prevent basket resonance from affecting midrange performance, particularly at higher listening levels.

Natural Cellulose Pulp Cones: Triangle continues to use natural cellulose pulp for its midrange cones, valued for its neutral tonal character and natural reproduction of voices and instruments. A new rear-glueing assembly process increases radiating surface area and improves linearity across the frequency range.

Solstice 8 Woofer Design: The Solstice 8 uses twin bass drivers with concave cones and no dust caps. The concave profile creates a stiffer radiating surface, reducing distortion at high excursion and maintaining clean, controlled low-frequency reproduction. The design also gives the driver a clean, uninterrupted appearance.

Cabinet

Triangle’s goal for the Solstice enclosure was acoustic neutrality, minimising the cabinet’s contribution to the reproduced sound.

DVAS (Driver Vibration Absorption System): Each driver is mounted against a high-density perforated internal brace with an EVA foam interface. This structure absorbs vibration before it reaches the cabinet walls, reducing coloration caused by cabinet resonance.

High-Density MDF Construction: All cabinets are constructed from high-density MDF. Finished weights are 12.9kg for the Solstice 3, 11.75kg for the Solstice C3 and more than 30kg for each Solstice 8, reflecting the emphasis on rigidity and mass.

Rounded Cabinet Edges: All external edges are rounded to reduce diffraction effects and improve sound dispersion, contributing to more precise stereo imaging.

Integrated base

The Solstice 8 introduces a new base concept that combines mechanical isolation, vibration control and bass-reflex loading within a single structure.

Hidden Laminar Bass-Reflex Port: The bass-reflex port is routed through the base using a laminar-flow design. This reduces turbulence and port noise while eliminating visible port openings from the cabinet.

Dual-Material Construction: The base combines a cast-iron honeycomb structure with a thick silicone outer layer. Cast iron provides rigidity and mass, while silicone absorbs vibration, helping to mechanically decouple the loudspeaker from the floor.

2-Degree Inclination: The base introduces a 2-degree rearward tilt, aligning tweeter dispersion more closely with seated listening positions and widening the effective listening area.

Adjustable Metal Spikes: The Solstice 8 is supplied with adjustable spikes and counter-spikes for use on hard or carpeted floors. Triangle-logo caps conceal the hardware when installed.

Crossover and connectivity

The crossover network uses air-core inductors, MKT capacitors and cement-coated resistors, with OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) internal wiring throughout.

The Solstice 8 features dual terminals for bi-wiring and bi-amping, while the Solstice 3 and Solstice C3 use single terminal blocks. All binding posts accept standard speaker terminations, including banana plugs and spades.

Design

Solstice is available in four finishes: Teak, Birch, White and Black Ash. The wood finishes feature a vertical grain orientation. Each model is supplied with colour-matched magnetic grilles.

Sculpted silicone surrounds frame each driver and are matched to the cabinet finish, complemented by champagne-finish aluminium trim rings.

The optional S05 stand, available in Black, White, Teak and Greige (an ideal match for the Birch finish), is designed specifically for the Solstice 3. The speaker base locks directly into the stand’s top plate for secure and visually integrated installation.
